Small World Panel Thread Recommendations

We love our Small World round so much that we decided to make a 13-mesh 5" by 7" version of it! While the 4" round version is perfect for making into an ornament to commemorate a vacation, I wanted something that I could use and love year round! My vision for the 5" by 7" version was for you to turn it into the perfect pastel nursery pillow or to have it leather finished into a beautiful clutch. The 5 by 7 inch size also makes it perfect for framing or an acrylic tray insert. I love the way that the small world motif is a bit of an "if you know you know" nod to the magic, without being too obvious- making it blend perfectly with your decor or a favorite outfit. 

While I went a little brighter with the colors in the kit for our round, I wanted to lean into creamy pastels for this one! I stuck almost entirely with Milan thread- I love the silk/merino blend of the fiber and its lovely to stitch with. Some find it ever so slightly thin on 13 mesh, but it is all in the tension- don't pull your threads too tightly and you'll have a beautiful coverage.

The geometric nature of this design also lends itself beautifully to decorative stitches galore! I totally recommend using this canvas as a palette of sorts to dabble in lots of new stitches. Grab a book like "Stitches to Go" for inspiration or look up online databases of needlepoint stitches!
